  • Whakatipu Reforestation Trust’s recently released Impact Report for 2023 highlights some of the incredible mahi occurring throughout Whakatipu Basin.

The Trust’s vision — to protect and restore native biodiversity through revegetation projects, collaboration, education, and advocacy — is clearly going well.

Did you know that last year the Trust planted 10,550 native trees and shrubs, and volunteers collectively worked 4,088 hours!

Since the Trust’s establishment in 2014 they’ve planted an impressive total of 80,942 trees and shrubs. All their keystone sites are on public land and planting days are always open to members of the community.

Special mention needs to go to Trust co-founder Neill Simpson who is stepping down as Chair after 10 years. His phenomenal and district-changing work as Chair will be carried on by climate scientist Katherine Durman who will do an exceptional job of continuing the forward momentum.
