Understanding the land, one farm at a time

What wildlife is living on our farms? Where are the biodiversity hotspots? And how can we better protect and restore them?

WAI Wānaka's On-farm Biodiversity Monitoring Programme is helping answer these questions by working alongside local farmers to better understand the native plants, birds, insects and ecosystems found across their properties. By gathering valuable ecological data, the programme is building a clearer picture of biodiversity across the Upper Clutha and identifying opportunities to strengthen the health and resilience of our landscapes.

By bringing together landowners and environmental experts, the programme is helping build a better understanding of the ecosystems that make this region unique.
