Adaptation
Urutaunga
Adaptation means adjusting natural or human systems, such as infrastructure networks and the economy, to respond to actual or expected climatic conditions and their effects.

We want Queenstown Lakes to be a place that is ready and prepared to adapt to a changing climate.
-
It is imperative that our communities embrace a proactive stance toward climate change adaptation. As the global climate undergoes significant transformations, our local environment is not immune to the impacts of these changes. Rising temperatures, altered precipitation patterns, and more extreme weather events all mean we need to make a concerted effort to prepare and adapt.
Sustainable practices, resilient infrastructure, and community education are vital components of a strategy aimed at mitigating and adapting to the effects of climate change. Queenstown Lakes communities can become resilient hubs that not only withstand the challenges posed by a changing climate but also thrive in harmony with the unique ecosystems that define our district.

Preparing for our future.
Adaptation includes planning for direct impacts on health, safety and wellbeing, such as exposure to heat waves, and indirect impacts such as potential food and water insecurity, and disrupted health services. It also means changing the way we live and work in preparation for a zero carbon future and being open to the opportunities this will bring.
