Queenstown Electrification Accelerator (QEA) is a community-led electrification pilot project with a big goal: to make Queenstown the world's most electric destination.

Building the 2050 energy system by 2030 would make Queenstown a lighthouse example for the world showing that homes and businesses can achieve lower bills, lower emissions, and higher resilience by upgrading fossil fuel machines to electric equivalents.

To achieve this, QEA is making a host of resources available to locals that highlight the benefits of electrification and provide practical advice about how to do it. They include:

    • Securing hot water heat pump discounts through collective purchasing.

    • A ‘solar for renters’ trial with benefits for both landlords and tenants.

    • A long-term vehicle-to-grid (V2G) trial which enables your EV to share its battery power with your home or business, and the electricity grid.
